Dental Sealants in North Dallas

Sealants

Sealants are often associated with child oral care, but people of all ages may need them. A dental sealant is an acrylic-like material that shields the surface of the tooth from decay-causing bacteria and other environmental factors. Dental sealants are a cost-effective way to protect the teeth. On top of that, they are minimally invasive and unnoticeable to the outside eye.

We typically recommend sealants for children who show early signs of tooth decay. If caught before the decay turns into a bigger problem, sealants can help save the child’s teeth. Studies indicate that sealants can reduce the risk of decay by nearly 80%. That makes a big difference for your child’s dental health.

With more than 22 years of experience in cosmetic and family dentistry, Dr. Katyal has outfitted countless patients with sealants. This gives them the foundation for a healthy set of teeth.

How Do Sealants Work?

Sealants serve as a layer of protection for your teeth. Cavity and decay-causing bacteria live in everyone’s mouth. Left untreated, this bacteria can produce acids that damage the teeth. So, if Dr. Katyal notices bacteria starting to become a problem, he may suggest a sealant. This protects the tooth and keeps the bacteria from causing cavities or decay.

Do I Need Sealants?

While everyone may be a candidate for sealants, we most commonly outfit children with them. This is because the earlier you get them, the better. Molars come in around age 6, and second molars come in around age 12. So, if Dr. Katyal notices any problem areas with developing molars, sealing them early can keep them cavity-free right from the start.
