Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and bridges are some of the most common procedures performed at our Dallas dental clinic. Dental crowns, or ‘caps’, are used to cover an existing damaged, decayed, or unattractive tooth. When used in conjunction with a bridge, they can also replace a tooth entirely. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth, all the way up to the gumline. They are most often used to restore a tooth’s natural appearance and prevent any further deterioration or damage from taking place.
Dr. Ron Katyal has more than 15 years of experience in cosmetic and family dentistry, which means he has performed countless dental crowns. Dr. Katyal is a strong advocate for honest dentistry and reasonable pricing, which is why he is considered a leading dentist in Dallas. He works hard to build and maintain relationships with each and every patient, which means discussing any treatment recommendations at length before moving forward.
Crowns and bridges are considered one of the most common dental restoration procedures in the field of dentistry. The crowns and bridges performed here at Premier Smiles come in a wide range of materials, such as metal, porcelain, or a combination of both. All of our crowns are custom made for each patient, which means Dr. Katyal will work with you to ensure your tooth is prepared. Keep in mind that this may take more than one appointment to complete.
Crowns and Bridges
Again, crowns are designed to fit over an existing tooth, at which point a dental bridge will be used to fill in the gaps where the teeth are missing. Crowns can be helpful in whitening, reshaping, and realigning any existing teeth. The dental crown procedure may go as follows:
- Consultation with Dr. Katyal
- Preparation of the affected tooth
- Impression of the tooth is then made
- A temporary crown is put in place
- The permanent, custom crown is construction
- The final crown is inserted
Keep in mind that each patient is different, therefore the crown procedure may change. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Katyal or one of our knowledgeable dental hygienists. We are here to ensure you understand Dr. Katyal’s treatment recommendation and know what to expect from getting a crown.
Bridges typically consist of an artificial tooth that is connected to a set of crowns used to fill a gap created by one or more missing teeth. In the event Dr. Katyal recommends a custom bridge for your mouth, you can rest assured that it will look and function like your natural teeth. Bridges are often used to serve as a lifelike replacement for one or more missing teeth. The bridgework will span the space of the missing teeth and may require three or more crowns. Depending on your situation, two of those crowns may be placed over healthy teeth on both sides of the missing teeth. When this is the case, those healthy teeth are referred to as abutment teeth.
For more information on how many abutment teeth you may need or about dental bridgework in general, please do not hesitate to contact Premier Smiles.
