Understanding Dental Implants

The best candidates for dental implants are those who have missing teeth, wear dentures, or have a gap in their smile they would like corrected. One of the determining factors when it comes to dental implants is how healthy a patient’s gums and bone structure are. Dental implants require adequate structure and support. With this in mind, one of the first things Dr. Katyal will do is examine your mouth, teeth, and gums to ensure you are a good candidate. Once that it has been determined that you are a candidate for dental implants, Dr. Katyal will place the implant in the site of the missing tooth or teeth. The implant will then be given a minimum of 3 months for it to integrate with the surrounding bone. After the integration period, Dr. Katyal will attach an abutment to the implant to prepare it for impression to be sent to the lab. Within a 2 week period, your crown (tooth) will return from the lab and it will be permanently placed in the mouth.
